AUTHOR'S NOTE.
I'm a proud indie author whose books sell by the thousands (not millions). Although I studied creative writing in college, taught AP language arts classes, and had a successful career with a major publisher, it was after my 70th birthday when I wrote my first novel. I by-passed the usual channels and did it my way - thus avoiding the market-driven influences of big publishing. Thanks to that decision, the stories 'in my head' actually made it to print, and in my lifetime! I don't pay companies (or others) for ratings & reviews, and I'm free to interact with readers, book clubs, and libraries without restriction. Some months, my books turn a profit, and sometimes they don't. My greatest reward, by far, is interacting with readers - especially those who I meet in my author sessions with book clubs and libraries. I hope our paths may cross in 2024.

MORE ABOUT MY AUTHOR SESSIONS.
LIBRARIANS MAKING A DIFFERENCE.
It was Georgia Albright, a kindly librarian in Along the Red Dirt Road, who led young Annie to the truth. Two generations later in Three Roads Out, it was another librarian, Lacy Albright (Georgia's colorful granddaughter) who provided Dr. KT Winslow with the smoking gun she needed. I know the Albright women - they are my fictional heroines.
Today's librarians are real-world heroines and heroes. On a daily basis, they address a wider range of community needs than ever before - too often under hostile circumstances. My contribution? I write books of high social relevance that entertain, engage, unite, and empower people, families, and communities - rather than depress, inflame, or divide them.
Just checking. Are my books in your library?
Book donations and requests.
Libraries serve book clubs, seniors, young readers, and many who cannot afford to buy. To readers who wish to share my books after reading them - why not donate them to your local library? While you are at it, see if your library is willing to order a few extra. There is rarely a shortage of pulp or big publisher books at libraries, but having a supply of nourishing, multi-generational books (especially indies) is essential to libraries that strive to provide fresh, purposeful reads to their patrons, book clubs, and community reading programs.
Wishing you peace, love, and great programming!

MY FREE AUTHOR SESSIONS (discussions, lectures, signings) ~
- Are for book clubs, libraries, and thematic events worldwide!
- My live virtual sessions provide book clubs, libraries and branches with a reliable source of purposeful, entertaining programs (whether participants are in one location or many). Virtual sessions avoid problems related to weather, illness, other disruptions.
- My in-person sessions are readily available within 50 miles or so of Kansas City, and occasionally in other parts of the USA and Canada.
- My sessions are truly free. There are no purchase requirements. I gladly sign all books, regardless of where purchased.
- Different strokes for different folks: My sessions may be tailored to (1) those who have read my books; (2) those who have not read my books; (3) mixed audiences; (4) specific audience needs.
- Audiences who have read my book(s): If the audience is fully comprised of those who have read the book(s) to be discussed, I'll look forward to sharing the real people, places, and stories behind these tales, a few noteworthy personal experiences, and some writer insights that relate uniquely to each book. Most characters are composites of real people with fascinating stories I'd love to share. Hillview, the Shenandoah Valley, the Oklahoma Dust Bowl, and other settings are also composites - of actual towns, buildings, farms, orchards, cemeteries, and other places with rich histories that deserve their own telling. And yes, I may even shed some light on several sub-plots - some real and some imagined. Without doubt, my greatest pleasure from these sessions is hearing how readers are impacted by various facets of these tales. I never push participants to buy my books.
- Audiences who have NOT read my book(s): If the audience is fully or partially comprised of those who have not read the book(s) to be discussed, I may need some details from the organizer in advance. My sessions with these groups are lots of fun and focus on the backstories, themes, social relevance, settings, and references (cultural, historical, and geographic). As with sessions for those who have read my book(s), I include some writing and creative insights - but nothing akin to a spoiler. Following the general discussion, I usually invite any who have read the book(s) being discussed to stick around for some Q&A (avoids spoilers).
MORE ABOUT MY AUTHOR SESSIONS.
- My shtick is authentic, timely storytelling. Along the Red Dirt Road and Three Roads Out have a knack for building bridges - among people, within families, and within communities. Through a cast of entertaining characters, readers encounter many of the societal issues that currently divide us. As common ground takes clearer form, there is reason to smile and feel better about the world around us. When people smile and feel less divided, I do too!
- Links to book synopsis, genres, settings, societal & cultural features > Along the Red Dirt Road. Three Roads Out.
- My virtual sessions via Zoom (preferred virtual platform): One member of your group usually serves as Zoom host and I join that session. I strongly recommend that the host uses a paid (not free) account to minimize the likelihood of slow speed and other issues. To insure the best possible experience, I am always happy to use my professional Zoom account and serve as host.
- My virtual sessions via Skype, Webex, Facetime Group, GoogleMeet: If you have a paid version of one of these and wish to serve as host, I will be happy to join your meeting. I strongly recommend that we test our connections in advance of that meeting.
- Time allowance: This is up to you, but 10 to 15 minutes is typical for my story presentation + additional time for questions and discussion. For in-person events, allow extra time for socializing, book signing, purchasing books (if applicable).
- Language: All sessions are in English, with a faint Oklahoma accent.
- Questions and scheduling: Just email me at ashfoard1@gmail.com with your time/date preferences + rough estimate of group size + other info/questions you may have. On request, I'll gladly email you some sample questions and discussion topics. If you'd like to speak by phone, please include your number and a good time for me to call you.
